Here's Another One that'll Take You Back...
The year was 1977, our fourth issue. On the cover was an inset photo featuring three California Look Ghias from Der Kleiner Panzers Volkswagen club. However, the picture seen here--different from that cover shot--never made it in VWT, like hundreds of thousands of others since then. The beige, black and white coupes all ran Weber 48IDAs and belonged to, respectively, Doug Mische, Bill Rodgers and Bill DeMoss. Doug and Bill Rodgers are still both involved with the VW scene today, driving large-displacement Cal Look Bugs. Mr. Mische even won the Best of Show trophy at last year's VW Panic, featured in our November 2002 issue. Unlike the car, we doubt, however, that he still owns the bell bottoms.
