Pauter Machine in Chula Vista, California, takes the Volkswagen engine into the exotic zone. Shown here are the parts included in Pauter's big-block kit. The list of features is impressive and includes a 5-quart wet sump, a transmission mounting plate, a one-piece 356-T6 aluminum block casting, a top cover plate (which is removable to allow complete inspection of the main and rod bearings without a major teardown), and three billet 6061-T6 aluminum main caps. As you can see, these components are pretty high-tech.

What may be the ultimate in VW-type horsepower, the Pauter big-block comes complete with a Littlefield 6-71 blower unit using a nine-percent underdrive belt-drive system and a Hogan custom blower box manifold. The engine has a 94mm stroke and a 104.8mm bore for a total displacement of 3243 cc. While the engine is running on methanol, horsepower is a whopping 900-1000. This is definitely not for the faint at heart or wallet.
